Following the enactment of the Financial Services (Experienced Investor Funds) Regulations in 2005, the funds sector in Gibraltar has grown quickly in a few years, and as of today’s date there are 33 experienced investor funds registered with the Financial Services Commission.

These funds were initially smaller niche funds, focussing on specific investment opportunities, but recently we are now seeing interest from investors looking to establish larger retail funds. Combined with the growth in the number of funds, there has been a corresponding increase in the number of fund administrators operating in Gibraltar, and there are now 10 of these that are registered with the Financial Services Commission to provide administration services under the Financial Services (Collective Investment Schemes) Act 2005.

These fund administration companies do not only provide services to locally domiciled funds, but also to funds that are registered in other jurisdictions such as the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands.
